Maverick Bowie (born July 7, 2015) is an American football safety for the Dallas Birddogs of the Developmental Simulation Football League (DSFL).

Early years

Born in the small college town of Lynchburg Virginia to Edward and Destiny Bowie. Maverick grew up in the mountains spending most of his time working with horses on his family's horse farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Football was a major part of Maverick's life growing up and his family regularly attended games at the local university, Liberty.

Maverick was a bit of a late bloomer athletically but his time working with horses on the farm equipped him with a general toughness that allowed him to excel on the football field. He attended Lynchburg Christian Academy thoughout his early education and in high school he immediately made the varsity football team for the Bulldogs. Maverick quickly emerged as one of the most promising defensive talents in the state of Virginia, eventually leading the Bulldogs to an undefeated season and the Divison 3A State Championship his senior season. That season Maverick broke the VA state record for interceptions with 24, earning him a place in the ESPN Top 100 in 2033 as a 4-star prospect.

College career

After high school, Bowie decided to stay local and accepted a scholarship to play football at Liberty University. In his freshman season he made an instant impact by earning Freshman First-Team All-American honors while racking up 77 tackles and 3 interceptions, and leading the Flames to a 11-2 record and a 27-10 victory in the Belk Bowl over state rival Virginia Tech. Maverick's sophomore season was hampered by a nagging knee injury that unfortunately caused him to miss 8 games. Despite this earlly set-back, Maverick was still able to rack up 34 tackles and 2 interceptions on the season, recording 12 tackles and returning an interception for a touchdown in the Celebration Bowl where the Flames defeated New Mexico State 28-24, ending their season with a 7-5 record.

Bowie's junior year was a return to form as he once again achieved First-Team All-American honors posting an impressive 80 tackles and 5 interceptions on the season which helped the Flames achieve a program best 12-1 record and a 17-10 win over Aubrun in the Outback Bowl. Maverick saved the best for last in college though as his senior year was by far his most successful. In his final season at Liberty, he led the Flames to their first ever undefeated season with a 13-0 record. The Flames finished the season ranked 7th in the nation. That season Bowie once again earned First-Team All-American honors with a career-high 85 tackles and a Liberty University record 7 interceptions. The Flames also earned an at-large bid to the Rose Bowl that year where they defeated USC 27-13.

Professional career

DSFL career

Dallas Birddogs S22

Bowie entered the DSFL late in S22 and was immediately placed on waivers where the Dallas Birddogs decided to pick him up.

Tijauana Luchadores S23

Bowie did not post any stats during his time in Dallas and entered the S23 DSFL Draft where he was the second S picked in the draft after being picked 8th overall by the reigning Ultimini champions, the Tijuana Luchadores. In his first season in Tijuana, Bowie helped the team to a 6-8 record, playing in all 14 games for the Luchadores. The season was a bit of a let down for Tijuana as they missed out on the playoffs the season after winning their record 7th Ultimini. The Luchadores just could not bounce back from their slow start after losing 3 of their first 4 games, ultimately leading to a 3rd places finish in the very competitive SFC South. Despite the struggles this season, the Tijuana offense still had a strong showing with veteran QB Ben Slothlisberger leading the team to the best pass offense in the league and rookie RB Crowbar Theeks leading the entire DSFL in rushing. As good as Tijuana was on offense, it was not enough to make up for their problems on defense where they posted the 3rd worst defense in the league even with Bowie ranking 3rd out of all S's in tackles and having two DPOG performances for the Luchadores.

This was just Bowie's rookie season in the league and he definitely showed promising signs of good things to come. Bowie was elected as a defensive captain for the Luchadores at the end of the season as he proved to be a strong locker-room presence and a leader on the defensive side of the ball and has potential to be a big playmaker returning punts. Bowie will hope to improve on his pass defense in coming season, but currently stands as one of the best athletes in the DSFL.

Maverick Bowie's 35.9 inch vertical jump, was good enough for tenth best all-time and his 4.24 40 yd dash ranks 2nd all time. Bowie also posted an all-time record in the broad jump with a massive leap of 137.6 inches.

Tijauana Luchadores S24

In Bowie's final season in the DSFL, he enjoyed the most success he has ever had as a professional football player. This season was about putting Tijuana back where they belong at the top of the DSFL, and as a returning captain Bowie had to play a big role for the Luchadores to be successful this season. The season got off to a great start as Tijuana beat their bitter rivals the Dallas Bird Dogs at home 22-13. Bowie did not put up any outlandish stats but his role on the field was crucial for the Luchadores as he kept a couple big plays from happening with some fantastic tackles deep down the field. Tijuana carried that momentum into their next home game against Myrtle Beach where they won 22-6 before dropping their next two games on the road to drop to 2-2 on the season. This was a defining moment for the Luchadores season, would they sink back into mediocrity or would they rise to the challenge to reclaim their throne as the best team in the DSFL? A three game win streak, and winning 8 of their last two games made it obvious which choice Bowie and the Luchadores had made. This run of games left the Luchadores with a 10-4 record and home field advantage throughout the DSFL playoffs. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be for Bowie and the Luchadores this season as they were knocked out in the first round of the playoffs in overtime to the Norfolk Seawolves. It was a brutal loss for Bowie and Tijuana but it does not take away from the success the team had this season.

Bowie posted similar stats to his rookie season in the DSFL. Bowie finished the season with 74 tackles which was good enough to get him in the top 5 on the season for tackles from the secondary, but with little else to show on the stat sheet it has to be stated that Bowie underperformed in his final season with Tijuana.

ISFL Career

Baltimore Hawks S24

Maverick Bowie was selected 5th overall in the 1st round by the Baltimore Hawks in the S24 ISFL Draft. Bowie is currently still participating in the DSFL with the Tijuana Luchadores and has not been officially called up to the ISFL at this time.

Austin Copperheads S25

Maverick Bowie was traded to the Austin Copperheads halfway through S24 for a S26 1st and 3rd round pick. He will make his ISFL debut with the Austin Copperheads this season.
